As I was getting ready to go to the grocery store the other day, I asked my husband what he needed to add to the list. He told me we were getting low on toilet paper. That triggered a memory that took me back to last year when we had the toilet paper scare; when people, for some crazy reason, panicked and made a run on the stores to buy up that precious commodity, and hoard it in the event it became unavailable due to the Covid crisis. I still don’t understand why that happened, but I took a cue from Scarlet and vowed, “As God is my witness, I will never get low on toilet tissue again.
Fortunately, during that trying time, Mr. Butt’s store usually had some in stock. Hah! That would be HEB. If you don’t already know, those letters stand for Howard E. Butt, the son of the original owner of the store. Newcomers to Texas may call it Heb, until they are told the proper way to say it is H-E-B.
