“Astronaut captain of the mail room.”

Jimmy Shepard’s fellow workers in The Baytown Sun mail room, circa 1960s, gave him that title in recognition of his incredible speed tying bundles of newspapers for delivery. They were inspired by a new subscriber, an astronaut who had the same last name as Jimmy’s -- Alan B. Shepard. And you might say they had the same work ethic -- speed.
