One of the greatest moments in the history of Robert E. Lee High School happened on October 29, 1976.  For those in attendance, I am sure it is a surreal experience they will never forget.  The Friday nights at Stallworth Stadium became the spotlight for one special guest.

The Ganders, Lee Band, Brigadiers, REL Cheerleaders and thousands of Gander fans were joined by the United States Secret Service as then President Gerald R. Ford took care of the coin toss duties before settling into the middle of sea of maroon and white to watch the Ganders start their shellacking of Aldine MacArthur 34-0.   It is part of the unique history of our Robert E. Lee.  It doesn’t stop there. President Ford just doesn’t have the connection to our REL history.  He has a connection to the history of General Robert E. Lee.
