As a proud Robert E. Lee Gander alumnus, I have gone on record with my opposition to changing the name of the school. That position has not and will not change. I have never considered myself to be an optimist or pessimist but rather a realist. Three of the five high schools in Texas which were once named for General Robert E. Lee have succumbed to political correctness and changed or will be changing their names.

While history cannot be changed despite attempts to erase it by removal of statues and namesakes, the continued attempts to do so, especially the changing of names of schools, make me realize that the changing of the name of our Robert E. Lee is a fait accompli.

James, I agree completely that the name change is inevitable, and that Henry Armstrong High School is the best choice. It very much embodies the history of the school. He was a kind, strong and noble man.
