Over the years I have written many articles pertaining to the outstanding accomplishments of the former Baytown George Washington Carver High School students/athletes who excelled in the field of sports. In this article, I would like to share with you a few former Carver School students who participated in Prairie View Interscholastic League Literary, Music and Industrial Arts state competitions and did extremely well representing their school.

Records indicate that Carver students won and placed in state competitions in many categories other than sports and band. The records that we were successful in retrieving from PVAMU archives indicate that Robert Brown won 2nd place in Senior Declamation, Hazel Loftin won 3rd place in Female Vocal and H. Loftin, A. Fotin, M. Walker and M. Pleasant won 1st place in Female Quartette as early as 1941. That was seven years before the new George Washington Carver High School was constructed at the corner of Lee Drive and Carver Street which opened its doors to students in 1948.
