A man was killed in the crash of a gyrocopter – a small aircraft similar to a helicopter – about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chambers County Airport in Anahuac. Published reports identify the pilot as 59-year-old Baytown resident Steve Weir.

“A gyrocopter, which is an experimental aircraft, crashed at the airport after suffering some type of a mechanical failure,” said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford. “The rotor separated from the aircraft and the aircraft crashed on the airport and the pilot was killed.”
