The winds and rain from Hurricane Nicholas blew through this week, leaving many in the dark from power outages.

The once-Category 1 storm was downgraded to a tropical depression Wednesday as it hovered over Louisiana, dumping heavy rain where Hurricane Ida had recently struck. Rain fell through roofs that had been torn away by Ida Aug. 29. It also swamped coastal Mississippi, Alabama, and northwest Florida. Thousands remain without power in Texas and Louisiana.
