Ever since Goose Creek board member Howard Sampson proposed discussing changing the name of Robert E. Lee High School, many that attended the school have spoken up to either support or oppose the idea.

The Goose Creek CISD board will discuss changing the name at its Aug. 3 meeting. Although there are no hearings scheduled on the matter before the next meeting, that has not kept people from expressing their opinions about having the Civil War general’s name on the historic school.

Jennifer Lind Bourgeois - Your high school name will need to go as well as I am sure you are aware that Ross S. Sterling was in the Ku Klux Klan! You did note that Tyler changed both of their high schools. As their school board president basically said if one goes, they both go, and we expect the same thing out of the GCCISD board along with five elementary schools. That will be a total of seven schools to have name changes so think about that when you pay your taxes!
