Kysar family

United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County worked with the Mennonite Disaster Service to repair Philip and Cindy Kysar’s home after it flooded during Hurricane Harvey. Seated is Philip Kysar. From left are Wayne Yoder with the Mennonite Disaster Service and Cindy Kysar.

Just 13 months before Hurricane Harvey hit the Baytown area, Philip and Cindy Kysar purchased their dream home in the Pinehurst neighborhood. But after the 500-year storm, they couldn’t fathom how they would be able to recover, as most of their savings were used to purchase the home that took on several inches of water.

But thanks to a stranger only known to the Kysars as “Jenny,” Mennonite volunteers helped restore their home.
