Crosby assistant coach Joe Silva and Tyler Thomas celebrate after an emotional 62-61 overtime win over Liberty Hill in a Class 5A-II state semifinal last weekend. Now comes two-time defending state champions Aledo 1 p.m. Friday as the Cougars search for the first-ever state title in football and in a team sport at Crosby.

Don’t call it a Cinderella run.

The Crosby Cougars football team is 48 minutes from the first state title in not only the sport, but all team athletics in school history when it kicks off the Class 5A-II state championship game 1 p.m. Friday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas against the two-time state champions, Aledo (12-1).
