The Greater Baytown area was well represented as the 17-5A All-District girls basketball teams were announced.
Barbers Hill and Crosby topped the list as both teams had six selections. In addition, Goose Creek Memorial and Sterling had five players selected, while three were named from Lee.
Distinguished Honors
District MVP – Dalanna Carter, Barbers Hill
Offensive Player of the Year – Jernye McZeal, Port Arthur Memorial
Defensive Player of the Year – Cynthia LeCompte, Barbers Hill
Newcomer of the Year – Adelaine Dancel, Sterling
Coach of the Year – Bryan Harris, Barbers Hill
In earning MVP honors, Carter was a force to be reckoned with as she averaged 28 points per game. She sank three free throws against Manvel with time expired to lift the Eagles to victory in overtime and punched their ticket to the regional semifinals.
Harris guided Barbers Hill to a 33-6 record and 14-0 mark in district. Additionally, he also earned his 600th career win earlier in the season.
