Father Dwight Canizares, pastor of Baytown’s Saint Joseph Catholic Church, has come a long way from the island in the Philippines where he was ordained 30 years ago.

Born in 1956, the fourth child of eight in very religious family who lived in the city of Cebu, he was an altar server or acolyte in the church at age 7 and entered the seminary at age 12 along with 59 other 12-year-olds. Twelve years later, he was one of only four to take vows and be ordained.
