Wright, doubles teams lead Sterling netters

PASADENA — Kailey Wright and the doubles team of Krista Bocksnick and Stuart Tiller earned third-place finishes for Sterling in last weekend’s Pasadena tennis tournament.
Additionally, the doubles team of Tess Arnold and Renee Gomez earned a fourth-place finish in what was the first spring action for the Rangers tennis team because of an earlier rainout at Humble.
Wright, a senior, won three matches, against players from Pearland, Foster and Alvin before losing her semifinal match in B Girls Singles to a Nederland player. She was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over a Dobie player for third place.
Bocksnick and Tiller competed in B Mixed Doubles. They beat duos from Morton Ranch and Foster before losing to Friendswood in their semifinal. They knocked off a Spring Woods team 7-6, 7-5 for third place.
Arnold and Gomez played A Girls Doubles. They beat Clear Lake and Liberty teams before losing to Morton Ranch in the semis. Kingwood’s team beat them in the third-place match.
In A Boys Doubles, Josh Villareal and Cameron Gardner picked up a win over Cy Springs before losing to Nederland 7-9.
In B Boys Doubles, Sterling’s Shifatul Islam and Ahmed Khan eased by Pasadena before losing 1-8 to No. 2 seeded team from Clear Lake.
In A Girls Single, Kristie Kenny beat a Pasadena player 8-0 then lost to Nederland 6-8. In B Girls Doubles, Kati Krutsinger and Miranda Rodriguez beat Deer Park 8-0, then fell in split sets to Friendswood.
In A Mixed Doubles, Rangers Cameron Dyer and Annie Tran beat a Spring Woods duo, then fell 8-5 to Friendswood.
