Filing period begins for May election

The filing period for Baytown’s May 8 municipal elections started Monday and two candidates submitted their applications.
Feb. 6 was the official first day to file, but since this date fell on a Saturday, the starting date became Monday.
Seats in Districts No. 1, 2 and 3 will be up for grabs in this year’s election.
Luis Flores submitted his application for the District 1 seat; Carmen Torres submitted an application to run in District 2.
Lena Yepez currently holds the District 1 seat. Scott Sheley is the incumbent in District 2.
Candidate packets, including an application form, a copy of the City of Baytown Charter, instructions for filing and campaign procedures, as well as an election calendar, can be obtained during normal business hours through the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, 2401 Market Street, or online at www.baytown.org.

April 8 First campaign contributions and expenditures report due
April 30 Second campaign contributions and expenditures report due
April 26-May 4 Early voting period
