Tyisha Jiles was the only player to score in double digits in Friday night’s battle between Lee and West Brook, but the Lady Ganders were still unable to come away with a win on its home court as they lost to the West Brook Lady Bruins 24-20.

Jiles hit four shots from beyond the 3-point arc and one inside to finish with 14 points.

The Lady Ganders finished the last couple minutes of the first two quarters by holding the ball. With just over a minute left in the second quarter, Shelby Bedinger nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Lady Ganders to a 10-8 lead.

Effie Williams of Lee scored the first bucket of the second half on a layup, and from there Lee continued with the same strategy to hold the ball.

A pair of threes from Jiles closed the third quarter as the two teams went into the fourth with the Lady Ganders up 18-15.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bruins gave the Lady Ganders a taste of their own medicine. A couple quick shots gave West Brook a 19-18 lead before they decided to hold on to the ball, which also helped them hold the lead.

“With our spread offense, we figured we could win or tie and it just didn’t play in out that way in the end,” Lady Ganders coach Terry Gray said. “It’s something we’ve done throughout district play. The girls did a good job but couldn’t come away with the win in the end. You really can’t ask for anything more.”

After the loss, the Lady Ganders hold an overall record of 10-19 and 2-7 in District 21-5A, good for sixth place.

Sterling defeated Port Arthur Memorial Tuesday to forge a fourth-place tie between those two games at 3-6.

The Lady Ganders’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday when they take on Channelview on the road. Tuesday night’s game is the Lady Ganders’ last game of the regular season as they hope for a spot in the playoffs.
