Rangers pick up first soccer win

Mike Pittman and Alex Martinez each scored two goals Tuesday night as Sterling’s boys picked up their first soccer win of the season, 6-0 over Texas City.

Tomas Berrentos and Tino Cerda added single goals and Jose Herrera and Daniel Hernandez were outstanding on defense.

The Rangers, who fell 3-0 to Conroe last Friday, are 1-5-2 for the season.

Brewer paces GCM tennis at BH

MONT BELVIEU —Goose Creek Memorial’s Amy Brewer won first place in girls A singles at last week’s Barbers Hill Invitational to top a strong showing by the Patriots.

Nichole Nerf of GCM won the girls B singles and Tarun Jain advanced to the semifinals in boys A singles.

Brandon Taylor and Samantha McMichael were semifinalists in the mixed A doubles and Tiffany Willie and Maria Bracco won the consolation title in girls A doubles.

Playing in a separate tournament at C.E. King, GCM’s JV got wins from Julie Tran (A singles), Emily Brown (B singles) and Justin Morgan and Kassey Wright (mixed A doubles) and Ashley Andrew and Keeley Walker were semifinalists (girls A doubles).

Junior golfers can register

Junior golfers ages 6-18 wishing to participate in the Southern Texas PGA’s summer 2010 Junior Tour, Junior Links Tour and Little Linksters programs may now register online at www.stpga.com.

All three programs operate throughout southern Texas and are administered through seven “areas”— Austin, Beaumont, Bryan/College Station, Corpus Christi, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio.
