Redeemer Lutheran Church remedied the final Ike damage to its building, and hopes the new look will be a beacon to the community.
Wednesday morning the fifty-one year old church received a new steeple from Campbellsville Industries after a yearlong wait.
“We had quite a bit of damage after Ike,” 54-year church and approval board member Clifton “Tip” Davis said. “It took a long time for the insurance process; the steeple construction some time as well.”
The new steeple is copper, with a glowing stained-glass cross and an electronic bell system.
Redeemer Lutheran pastor Raymond Van Buskirk believes the new additions will serve the community as a visible and audible call to worship.
“ In the old days, the church would signal to the community it was a special occasion or church holiday,” Buskirk said. “The church in those days was the cornerstone of a town.”
