Baytown police reports show slip in crime stats

Baytown police statistics show crime is down this year and in fact, almost every category of crime and traffic statistics reflect decreases.
Three sexual assaults were reported in October, bringing the year’s total so far to 25 cases. There were 34 at this point in 2008.
There has been one murder in Baytown so far this year, compared to five at this juncture in 2008.
Eleven robberies in October brought the total to 80 for the year so far. At this point in 2008 there were 82 robberies reported.
Thirty-four aggravated assaults occurred in October and that makes 110 robberies so far in 2009. In October of 2008 there had been 154 robberies reported.
Police have handled 504 burglaries so far this year with 81 of those occurring in October. At this point last year there had been 651 reported burglaries.
Theft and larceny cases total 1,847 for 2009 so far with 282 of those reported in October. There were 1,973 such case reported in the first 10 months of 2008.
Auto thefts show a marked decrease from 2008 to 2009. So far this year 192 vehicles have been reported stolen 24 of those in October, while there were 284 auto thefts reported through October of last year.
The police department’s records show total crime numbers of 2,762 so far this year, compared to 3,183 at this point in 2008.
Police statistics show have been 1,503 traffic accidents in Baytown so far this year, which is down from the 1,890 in the first 10 months of last year. A total of 547 related injuries were reported in those accidents, compared to 590 at this juncture in 2008.
