Former Lee Gander quarterback Jeremy Moses, now a junior at Stephen F. Austin, has been named Offensive Player of the Week for the Southland Conference for the second time this season as he continues to lead his team as they compete for the conference title outright.

He has completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,155 yards and 34 touchdowns and has thrown only 13 interceptions so far this season while averaging 315 yards per game.

The Lumberjacks are currently ranked 15th in the nation among NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision teams, according to the Sports Network Top 25 poll and are headed into the weekend to take on the 0-10 Northwestern State University Demons in Natchitoches, La.

If the Lumberjacks come away with the win, they will have won the Southland Conference for the first time since 1999 and will qualify for the NCAA playoffs.

SFA is currently tied with McNeese for first place in the conference and a win will serve as the tie-breaker. Both McNeese and SFA hold a conference record of 5-1.

The Lumberjacks lost their first game of the year to SMU in a 31-23 final. It was a rough day for Moses who threw two touchdowns and five interceptions. However, Moses and his Lumberjacks bounced back the following week, and eventually won six straight games, including a 92-0 win over Texas College in which he threw for 285 yards and six touchdowns.

The next two weeks saw SFA come away with 40-30 win over Western Illinois and a 65-31 win over North Dakota. In those two games, Moses threw for a total of eight touchdowns and 633 passing yards.

The Jacks opened up conference play on Oct. 10, when they hosted the McNeese State Cowboys and won a nail-biter, 16-13.

The following week they hit the road to take on Central Arkansas, coming away with a three-point win, 33-30. During that game, Moses became the all time leader in touchdown passes. He came away with 320 yards and three touchdowns.

A week later, the Jacks hosted their rivals Sam Houston State, as the they recorded their largest margin of victory in the history of the rivalry, coming away with a 42-3 win over the Bearkats. Moses finished the day with 372 yards and five touchdowns.

Moses and his team got a scare on Halloween as they took on the Texas State Bobcats. The Jacks were handed their first loss since week one, falling 28-7. The team’s only touchdown came on a pass from Moses to receiver Duane Brooks.

The Jacks escaped with a narrow victory the next week in a 31-27 win over the Nicholls State Colonels. Brooks’ eight catches helped him tie the single season school record for receptions.

His 318 yards and four touchdowns passing helped Moses lead his team to a 41-10 win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions last week. The Jacks jumped to a quick 28-0 lead en route to knocking the Lions out of a four-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference.

Their game against Northwestern State is the last of the regular season. It’s scheduled for a 2 p.m. start Saturday.
