A local doctor believes in the holiday spirit and plans to share the gift this Thanksgiving.
Baytown optometrist Dr. Timothy Planty is sponsoring a Thanks-giving food drive. The drive began Sunday and will go through Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at his office at 4750 East Freeway.
During the event, Planty will select a few deserving families, who have been nominated by the community.
“At some point, you do an internal reflection and decide to give back,” Planty said. “Especially at this time of the year, things are tight for some families; in those times we need to come together as a community.”
Hot, well-balanced Thanksgiving meals with all of the trimmings will be personally delivered to the family’s door.
All food to be delivered will be purchased by Planty’s office. The optometrist also is looking for any donations of nonperishable food to have a bag full of grocery items for the selected families.
“Growing up we didn’t have much,” Planty said. “People can feel left out at this time of year if they cannot afford.”
Donations can be dropped off at 4750 East Freeway.
