Police News for November 18, 2009

A 33-year-old Houston man went to jail Monday after Baytown police officers spotted him burglarizing vehicles parked outside San Jacinto Mall.

Police said they saw the man first steal items from the back of a pickup truck, then saw him break inside another truck and steal speakers from it.

The suspect will face two charges of burglary of a motor vehicle.

School bus crime

A Baytown school bus driver told police someone stole her cell phone while she drove a school bus full of junior high school students Monday afternoon. Loss is estimated at $299.

Bikes stolen

A thief cut through a chain and lock to steal two ladies’ bicycles from the porch of a home in the 1300 block of Yupon Street sometime Sunday or Monday, police said. One of the bikes should be easy to spot since it sported a fresh paint job – bright red with silver fenders. Loss is estimated at $200.

Bad judgement

A 40-year-old Baytown man picked the wrong people to ask for money Monday and that mistake led him to jail.

Police said the man was at a pharmacy in the 2000 block of Garth about 2:15 p.m. when he approached two Baytown police detectives and asked them for change. After an evaluation of the man’s condition, the suspect was arrested for public intoxication and for soliciting without a city permit.

Big TV stolen

Someone broke into an apartment in the 6900 block of North Main and stole a 52 inch Samsung television sometime late Sunday or early Monday. Loss is $2,100.

23 offenses

Between Monday and Tuesday mornings, Baytown police wrote 23 offense reports and investigated incidents that included two assaults; one burglary of a building; three vehicle burglaries; one criminal mischief case; two disorderly conduct cases; three forgeries; two thefts; and four miscellaneous cases.

Officers worked 10 traffic accidents also. Related injuries were reported in three of those accidents.
