The weather is turning colder, the wind is blowing and the leaves are falling. A sure sign that Christmas is only a short time away. However, there are many children in our area that may not have a Merry Christmas without the help of others. Now is the time for the community to pull together again, like it did with Ike, to make sure that as many kids as possible have a Merry Christmas. One way to do that is to contribute to the Goodfellows campaign.
The generous contributions of citizens of Baytown and the surrounding areas have allowed Goodfellows to deliver toys to children who might not otherwise have a Christmas for over 50 years.
This year is critical to the success of the program because of the soft economy and because of the shortfall of funds from last year. The need is greater than in past years because some are still feeling the impact of Ike last year and many due to the economy this year.
Again, this year, The Baytown Sun will partner with Baytown Resource and Assistance Center and Baytown Junior Forum to provide toys to as many families as possible. But your help is needed.
The Baytown Junior League will start accepting applications for toys today at the Baytown Community Center. Sign-up times are as follows:
Today, Nov. 16
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 19
4 -8 p.m.
Two additional days in December will be announced.
Help bring joy to the hearts of children by contributing to Goodfellows this year by sending your contribution to Goodfellows at P. O. Box 425, Baytown, Texas 77522 or by dropping off your contribution at The Baytown Sun office.
The holidays are all about traditions. And, helping others. Goodfellows, now well into its seventh decade, is expected to provide toys for thousands of Baytown area children this year. It's a community effort that helps give Christmas to children in families that for some reason or another cannot afford to.
