The Crosby Lady Cougars and the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots played their last games in the Lady Gander tip-off classic Friday. Memorial fell to Kingwood in a 72-42 final late Thursday night and played its last game against Texas City Friday night. Crosby played its last game Friday evening against Dobie.
However Lee’s Lady Ganders are scheduled to play their final game of the tournament at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Friday morning saw the Lady Ganders come away with a 52-24 win over Liberty.
Lee Coach Terry Gray said the team stepped up a lot since its last game.
“We shot a lot better today, and our defense was more aggressive,” he said. “We were able to nail some threes to put us up.”
Five 3-pointers came from Tyisha Jiles, who finished with a total of 16 points. Felicia St. Luce finished the game with 10 rebounds.
Gray was pleased that his team was able to even out his record early on and referred to it as a confidence booster.
“We’re 1-1,” he said. “It’s important mentally to get this one out of the way early. We know we can have a good year if we just take small steps and try to improve each day.”
Clear Brook is set to play 12:30 p.m. against the winner of Livingston and Cy Woods while Sam Rayburn will play at 11 a.m. today against the winner between Spring and Dayton.
The winner of those two games will meet in the championship game of the tournament at 6:30 p.m. today.
