The Eagles and Indians met up for the second time this season Friday night in front of 13,000 screaming Stallworth Stadium fans, but this time it was win or go home.

It was a defensive struggle all night but PN-G rode a pair of second-half scores to a 21-7 win in the Class 4A Division II bidistrict game.

The loss ends Barbers Hill’s season at 5-6 and advances the 11-0 Indians, the No. 5-ranked team in the state, to the second round of the playoffs.

“These boys have nothing to be ashamed of,” Barbers Hill head coach Don Price said of his team.

“Our seniors have done a great job and I’m really proud of our kids.”

Star Indian tailback Caleb Harmon carried the ball 39 times on his way to a record-setting night. He now has 1,789 yards, the second-best season rushing total in PN-G history.

Harmon accounted for all three of the Indians touchdowns and ran for a total of 192 yards.

A halftime score of 7-7 suggested that it was going to come down to the wire.

The Hill was down a touchdown to start the fourth quarter but was never able to produce any points.

PN-G had possession following a BH punt and drove 51 yards, only to have Azee Caldwell pick off quarterback Brennan Doty.

The Eagles had three separate drives to get into the end zone to tie it up, but the Indian secondary managed to stop The Hill’s late aerial assault by intercepting Matthew Viverette twice.

Harmon helped seal the deal with a two-yard touchdown run with 2:07 remaining in the game.

The entire first half was compiled of Barbers Hill punts and PN-G turning the ball over on downs.

The Indians struck first when Harmon ran one in from four yards out at the start of the second quarter.

Viverette tossed a six-yard touchdown two minutes later to Wade Duke for the tying score.

Halftime came and Harmon was ready for more. He scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:30 left in the third on an 11-yard run.

Despite the two picks, Viverette had a decent night, completing 15 of 23 for 132 yards and a TD. He also ran for 43 yards.

Of Viverette, Price noted his quarterback’s outstanding leadership throughout the season.

“Matthew is a great leader.” Price said.

“He’s the player every kid wants to grow up to be.”
