Homecourt advantage wasn’t much of an advantage in the first game for the Robert E. Lee Lady Ganders at their Tip-Off Classic Thursday.
Lee came up 47-30 short to Sam Rayburn. Lee coach Terry Gray said the things his team needs to work on the most are making free throws and not giving up the easy baskets.
The Lady Ganders will take the court for their second game today at 9:30 a.m.
Twenty-two other teams stepped onto the hardwood Thursday, including the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots who fell to Cypress Woods in their first game Thursday and later took on Kingwood Thursday evening.
The Crosby Lady Cougars saw action as they defeated Alvin and later fell short to Spring.
Lady Cougars coach Rhea Guillory was pleased with her team’s effort in the first game and in the first half of the second game.
“It was a real tough game,” she said. “I was pleased with the first half but in the second half we played with our heads down. The turnovers killed us and we weren’t able to capitalize on given opportunities. We missed 15 free throws and that’s something we can’t afford to do if we want to win ball games.”
Crosby is scheduled to return to action when they take on the loser of the Dobie vs. Clear Brook game at 5 p.m. today.
In other games, for Bracket “A”, Spring knocked off Santa Fe, Dobie beat Texas City and Clear Brook beat Cypress Ridge.
In Bracket “B”, Channelview beat Angleton, Livingston beat Magnolia, Galena Park beat Liberty.
Bracket “C” saw Friendswood knock off Kingwood, Dayton beat South Houston and Galveston beat Port Neches-Groves.
