This weekend, Baytown will host three playoff games at Stallworth Stadium.
Barbers Hill is set to take on Port Neches-Groves Friday at 7:30 p.m.
West Brook will be playing Deer Park on Saturday at 1 p.m. Silsbee will take on Huffman later that day at 7 p.m.
“I think it’s good for the school district and especially good for the city of Baytown,” said David Hall of the Goose Creek schools’ athletic department. “It will definitely bring in a nice revenue.”
Port Neches-Groves has a history of bringing some of the largest crowds to high school football games in the state of Texas.
“I imagine they’re going to bring real some good crowds as always,” Hall said. “I think it will be a reminder of the old time games.
“I recall back in day, I saw them play in the Astrodome, and the crowd they bring is amazing. I imagine that between the two schools, it’s going to be standing room only.”
Hall expects the West Brook and Deer Park game to be huge as well.
“Both Deer Park and West Brook always bring in big crowds and I’d expect them to do so when they come here,” he said.
As for the following weeks of the playoffs, Hall says he doesn’t know what to expect when it comes to whether or not Stallworth will host more games.
“That all depends who wins and who their next opponent is and who accepts home field,” he said. “It could very easily come here or they could just as easily play elsewhere. It’s all about what the coaches can agree on. If they can’t agree, then they will go to a neutral site.”
Overall, who plays in the next round is a separate discussion.
As for this week’s games at Stallworth Stadium, Hall says he doesn’t know what to expect for Saturday night’s game but expects Friday’s game and Saturday’s first game to be huge.
