CROSBY – Michael Williams said Kacy Morris and Lacy Morris, his twin senior hitters for Crosby’s volleyball team, fight all the time, as sisters are wont to do.

The sisters confirmed they fight all the time about who gets to wear what outfit from their shared clothing closet. They even fight about whose turn it is to drive the pickup truck they share.

“But nobody better pick a fight with one of them,” said Williams, Crosby’s second-year head coach, “because then they’ll both fight you.”

The twins will be with their Lady Cougar teammates today at 3 p.m., taking the fight to Montgomery in a Class 4A area playoff match at Spring High School.

Crosby, 37-2, was the lone area team to advance past the first round in the UIL regional playoffs earlier this week.

The Morris twins, as usual, were a big part of the Lady Cougars’ bidistrict win over Nederland.

Kacy Morris finished the match with 15 kills and five aces while Lacy logged seven kills and one ace.

Williams said that Kacy ranks second on the team in kills and Lacy third behind junior Jordan Sparks.

But then Sparks doesn’t have to spend loads of her time telling classmates she’s not her sister.

Identical twins, both say that’s their big complaint.

“It’s annoying when people ask which one’s which,” said Kacy. “It’s been going on for 17 years. Our friends just know us.”

She said one way to tell them apart is the black she dyed into the back of her blond hair. It’s a shade or two different from Lacy’s auburn highlights.

Another way, Lacy said, is she’s about an inch taller than her sister, 5-foot-9 to Kacy’s 5-foot-8. Easier still, Kacy hits right-handed and Lacy left-handed.

Personality-wise, “I have an attitude,” Kacy said, “and I’m going to tell you how I feel.”

Lacy, not so much.

A year ago, Crosby had two sets of twins playing volleyball. But sisters Lacey Bates and Lindsey Bates as well as teammate Courtney Nutt all graduated to college scholarships.

Williams wasn’t sure how his team would adjust this season to the change.

“We did lose a lot, but I thought we had a shot at being pretty good,” he said Friday. “I didn’t think we’d go undefeated in district, though.

“I knew we had to play good defense, because we didn’t have a big hitter this year like Lacey Bates.”

The Lady Cougars have played great defense and they did go a perfect 14-0 in District 19-4A, scoring a sweep over rival Barbers Hill.

Crosby plays with a lineup that includes setter Jessie Travis, middle blockers Hailey Dodd and Shelby Willis, Kacy Morris and Sparks at outside hitters and Lacy as opposite (left-side) hitter, with Meagan Veach at libero.

Others on the team include Natasha Bennett, Colby Jacks, Lindsey Martin, Carrie Griffin, Hannah Odom, Bianca Alcala, Jordan McArdle and Stacey Luciani.

“Last year we weren’t as close as we are this year,” Lacy said.

Schoolmates aren’t the only ones who have trouble telling the Morris twins apart.

Williams said in one match this year, an opposing coach had No. 2 (Kacy’s number) written on his right hand and No. 5 (Lacy’s number) written on his left hand, so he could remember which arm to watch out for where.

“They don’t get picked on,” Williams said. “They’re mean enough to prevent that. They have been known to hit (a ball at) you. They hit me in warmups.”
