One junior is an absolute killer at the net. The other is an all-around player.
Both are University of St. Thomas volleyball players. Anahuac grad Casey Mulryan and Barbers Hill product Court-ney Johnson have helped St. Thomas post an 19-11 overall record.
The team, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, has the third best record in the Association of Independent Insti-tutions with an 18-8 mark.
Mulryan has 264 kills with a .410 hitting percentage. The middle hitter/blocker also has 64 blocks (14 solos). She is currently ranked fourth in the NAIA in hitting percentage. She leads that category in the Association of Independent Institutions.
“We really count on Casey at the net,” said St. Thomas head coach Jill Reynolds. “There are not many players that can hit over .400 or better throughout the season. She is a tremendous offensive player, and I want her to be as good as a defensive player.”
Johnson has 270 assists, 146 digs, 69 kills and 23 blocks (one solo). She has a .220 hitting percentage.
“Courtney is just a great all-around player,” said Reynolds. “If we need someone somewhere, chances are she will have the tools to fill it. Everyday she matures into a better player.”
