SAN ANTONIO Baytown Christian Academy’s volleyball team will play for the championship of the Texas Christian Athletic League today at 1:30 p.m. at the International Bible Center.
The Bulldogs won three rounds of games Thursday and Friday, twice rallying for victory, en route to the Class 2A title match.
“We kind of started slow, but we picked it up,” coach Jovanna Roach said Friday night. “We are totally at the peak of our season, and the girls have peaked at just the right time.”
BCA opened with a 22-25, 27-25, 15-13 win over Tyler Heritage Christian Thursday and came from behind again to beat defending T-CAL state champion San Angelo Cornerstone Christian 22-25, 25-22, 15-10 Friday morning.
Friday afternoon, BCA defeated San Antonio FEAST (Family Educators Alliance of South Texas) 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22.
The Bulldogs will not know their final opponent until the end of a losers’ bracket playback game this morning between San Antonio FEAST and another team, possibly Cornerstone.
“It seems crazy to have to play a team you’ve already beaten, but at least we’ll be more rested,” Roach said. “And I don’t think it’ll matter, the way we’ve been playing.”
Roach said her team has been relying on defense, passing and serving to win.
“There are probably four or five better hitters here than what we have,” the BCA coach said. “But we have just passed, served and played defense at the right time.”
