Lee College faculty members and students are vetting for convenient parking as enrollment rises to new heights.

The college started its fall semester with 5,733 students an increase of 11 percent from last fall’s number of 5,160.

“We knew we would see an increase this fall,” Vice-President of Finance and Administration Steve Evans said. “We just couldn’t foresee by how much.”

Parking and traffic around the institution is more congested due to an influx of 573 more students, but the campus seems to have it under control. The College has instituted off-site parking at Memorial Baptist and offers shuttles for convenience. Busses and vans drive a continual loop around the college, taking students from their vehicles to campus, and pick-up is available outside of the ATC building.

“We are definitely discussing ways to improve parking,” Evans said.

The college prepared its budget for a 5% increase in enrollment and expressed they were pleasantly

surprised when that number doubled.

“We increased our budget for more faculty,” Evans said. “We knew we needed to accommodate the needs of all our students.”

Faculty members in Student Retention seem to be handling the increased population. The faculty members are currently waiting for numbers at the end of the semester to calculate the student success rate.

“The parking lots are still full,” Title 5 Program Coordinator, Ann Dickens said. “which means students are still coming.”

The Title 5 Program Coordinator hopes that longer lines in traffic will mean longer lines at the admissions counter.
