The Lee College theater department opened its production of Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd” on Thursday, cutting the red ribbon on their debut proscenium stage performance.
The college’s resident thespians drew a crowd of 200 to their opening night performance.
“I think it went smashingly well,” Lee Theater Director Amanda Murray said. “I am very proud of all of my actors.”
The show also debuted the technical direction of Darin Garrett.
“I proud to be a part of the Lee theater departments first production on this stage,” Garrett said. “ It’s a great production.”
The opening of the production coincided with the Visual and Performing Arts celebration that the department participates in during both the fall and spring semesters. Patrons who purchased tickets to the performance were invited to view the gallery exhibit by Lee’s art department.
Sweeney Todd will continue to have performances Oct. 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m.
