Arthur Howard Holt

Arthur Howard Holt, 77, of Baytown, was enjoying a round of golf at Gatlinburg Country Club in Tennessee, when he suffered a fatal heart attack on October 21, 2009. Born in Stowell, Texas, on May 2, 1932, he was the son of W.A. and Stella Ashworth Holt. Arthur graduated from East Chambers High School, where he was voted Most Athletic Male Student. In September of 1950, Mr. Holt went to work at Humble Oil and Refinery and eventually retired from Exxon as a Marketing Manager in 1982, after 33 years of service.

On December 21, 1951, he married Miss Ozell Collins, and they began their life together. He and Ozell were active members of Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church, and Arthur was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, United Methodist Men, Chambers County Golf Course, and Exxon Annuitants. The Holts traveled extensively with the Baytown Gadabouts, Gulf Coast Loafers, and Fun Travelers. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was an avid golfer. His camping trips will be remembered for his spectacular campfires and the meals he would prepare over those fires. When he wasn’t traveling or working on his handicap, Arthur was probably hanging shelves or cabinets, installing light fixtures, building a deck or roof or just making someone’s house a home. Arthur was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal brother, and treasured friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Holt, T. R. Holt, W. L. (Beck) Holt, J. T. Holt; and sister, Lillie Mae McAdams; Mr. Holt is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ozell Collins Holt, of Baytown; five children: Donna Rhoades and husband, Bill, of Anahuac; Pam Ansley and husband, Mike, of Daisetta; Arthur Holt and wife, Dana, of Dayton; James Holt and wife, Becky, of Cove; and Keith Holt and wife, Suzy, of Baytown; ten grandchildren: Melisa Gutierrez and husband, Eric; Adam Rhoades; Reverend M. Rhett Ansley; J.W. Holt; Sara Williams and husband, Jerry; Ashley Guillory and husband, Phillip; Ferril Holt; Forrest Holt; Abby McAdams; and Zach Holt; three great grandchildren: Jake Williams; Madison Gutierrez; and Katelyn Gutierrez; and a brother, Charles Holt, of Shreveport, LA.

His family will receive friends Sunday, October 25, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Road-Baytown. A Service of Remembrance will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2009, at Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Rd, with the Revs. Carol Clifford Turner and M. Rhett Ansley officiating. A private committal service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie. Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers will be Rhett Ansley, Adam Rhoades, J. W. Holt, Forrest Holt, Zach Holt, Jerry Williams, Eric Gutierrez, and Phillip Guillory.
