Thanks to the Baytown Sun for continuing to report the abuses by the city under the guise of "safety" regarding the red light cameras. Once again we see the city violating the law, just like they did when they illegally shortened the yellow light timing, profiting from it and refusing to issue refunds. Once again we see the arrogance of the city when the prosecutor said that sending out notices that weren't legal is merely a "technicality". How many more accidents and fatalities have we seen lately since the city tooks it's eye off the ball and focused on a small portion of traffic safety while ignoring the larger parts? Can anyone reasonably claim the streets are safer now? Do you feel safer driving down the streets in Baytown knowing there are more accidents and fatalities now than before the cameras went up? Weren't these cameras supposed to free up officers so they could patrol more? Where were these patrols during the epidemic of drunk driving accidents and fatalities over the last two years? I guess since the city can't collect $1.5 million in fines with drunk drivers like they have with red light cameras it isn't worth their effort.
