MONT BELVIEU — The Hill kicked off on Friday night looking to extend its two-game winning streak and succeeded. The Eagles executed on both sides of the ball on their way to a 35-17 win over C.E. King.
The Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season, 2-0 in District 19-4A.
The end zone was silent for the first six minutes of the game until Barbers Hill drove 80 yards. Quarterback Matthew Viverette ran it in for eight yards and gave the Eagles the early lead.
Viverette went on to finish the night completing 10 of 18 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the Eagle’s leading rusher with 120 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns.
Head coach Don Price thought his team performed at their best.
“Matthew played really well as did our offensive line, “ he said. “We managed to limit our turnovers and earned the win because of the team effort”.
The beginning of the second quarter started with a bang as Viverette cut through holes his offensive line created and took it 87 yards to the house.
C.E. King would get on the board soon after because of a 17-yard touchdown pass from Bennie Batiste to wide-out Patrick Johnson. This PAT was wide and made the score 14-6 Eagles.
Viverette and the Eagles offense responded with a 52-yard bomb to receiver Mitchell Hopper. This took the game to halftime with the score at 21-6.
The Panthers took a chunk out of the clock when they received at the half. A 55-yard series was capped off on a 17-yard field goal.
The Hill found it a bit easier to move the chains next time as they went 82 yards on 10 plays. Viverette got his second passing touchdown of the night as Jesse Morton caught a tipped pass and took it 35 yards to the end zone.
It took almost no time for Barbers Hill to score again when running back Andrew McMillan ended a 61-yard drive with a one-yard push into end zone.
McMillan ended the game running for 80 yards on 14 attempts.
The final points of the game came when the Eagles had their second-team defense on the field. Panthers half back Kendrick Domio ran one 25 yards for the TD. The two-point conversion was good to result in a 35-17 final score in favor of Barbers Hill.
The Eagles will hit the road next week as Kingwood Park has their homecoming.
