Give them some credit

I worked for the school district driving a bus for 20 years. I had hoped our students would have had the opportunity to see the video by President Obama, which would have hopefully prompted conversation with their parents over the issue. I don’t believe the district gave our students enough credit to think for themselves. By the way, were the students asked about seeing the video? I bet not.

Be the change

I resent that the opinion section has become a forum solely dedicated to politics with partisan, misinformed, arguments and complaints about petty issues, or famous people. This is a newspaper, not Us Weekly.

If you’re going to discuss the so-called “death panels.” be informed. If your argument espouses any idea that these are deliberations on who gets healthcare or that groups that will try to persuadeGgrandma to end her life prematurely, you are as easily ignorable as anyone who claims to have found Bigfoot They, at least, have “evidence.” These end-of-life counseling sessions are about planning to deal with legitimate surrounding one’s death: funeral arrangements, the writing of a will, or setting up power of attorney.

And if you feel that your displeasure with Ted Kennedy’s life or political career really merits the paper, take a walk and breathe nice deep breaths. It’ll be okay. He’s dead. And by all reputable accounts, that does not appear to be changing anytime soon. All you’re actually doing is attempting to disparage his family or his supporters. It’s not something worth space on a newspaper. It’s not even worth thinking about.

If we intend to have honest, meaningful, discussions about politics, drop the partisan labeling. The labels are vague to the point of having no meaning, and more often used solely to denigrate others needlessly. They create senseless factionalism and retard progress.

We can take more than we realize from Ghandi, when he said: “Be the change

you wish to see in the world.”
