Burn ban still in effect

The recent rains have helped lessen dry conditions, but it hasn’t been enough to relieve the drought the area has been suffering.
While drought conditions have improved slightly, Harris County remains in the extreme drought condition category, according to a National Weather Service bulletin Thursday.
The burn ban that went into effect in late June is still in place. Temperatures in the area remain in place and won’t likely be lifted soon.
As a reminder, the ban states:
“No outdoor burning is allowed except in an enclosure which contains all flames and/or sparks outdoor burning activities authorized by TCEQ, non-commercial cooking, and prescribed welding, grinding, cutting or “hot work” operations.”
Along with the dry conditions, the weather service noted, the average July temperature is on pace to be one of the hottest ever, which is helping to increase the danger of wildfires.
And the recent rains shouldn’t lull us into thinking the dangers are over.
