Six votes, one future

Today marks an opportunity for the citizens of Baytown to make their mark on their future in the voting booth. With $82.5M at stake, the residents of this community will have their chance to approve the bond package before them, and determine what changes they would like to see within the city. We strongly urge all who can cast a ballot to make their appearance today and vote yes on Baytown’s six bond proposals.

The Baytown bond package includes the upgrading of the City’s emergency response services, the extension of Baker Road, and the revitalization of Texas Avenue, as well as the development of aquatic facilities, drainage improvements, and street repair. Should these bonds pass, Baytown will see the benefits of improved roadways, faster emergency response times, new parks for families to use and the expansion of Baker Road into an efficient method for getting across town. Also, the passing of Proposition 5 will potentially stimulate the renaissance of Texas Avenue, the historic epicenter of our municipality.

While the choice is up to the community, we endorse all six of the bonds presented. In order to keep up with the needs of the population, the city must expand its capabilities to meet those needs. These bonds present a powerful way to encourage further city growth, upgrade our infrastructure, reacquaint us with our heritage, and improve the quality of life for all who live here.

Apathy kills progress. By not voting, or by voting no, then nothing changes; the streets stay as they are, no new fire trucks can respond to emergencies, and Texas Avenue remains a shadow of its former self. These bonds can make a difference, as long as they are passed through the electoral process. It is more than important; it is necessary to take the time to cast your ballots today.
