Baytown Lee starts the final week of the District 21-5A football season in a four-way tie for third place and could end up in a four-way tie, too.
Because of an odd quirk, none of the four teams tied behind leader West Brook and Humble Lee, Channelview, Kingwood and Port Arthur are all 3-3 play one another this weekend.
Friday, Lee plays at Atascocita, West Brook is at Channelview and Sterling hosts Kingwood. Port Arthur plays at Humble Saturday.
So there are all sorts of possible combinations requiring tie-breakers that could present themselves Friday and Saturday night.
But all the Ganders can do is win, baby. And hope that’s enough.
They go to Humble to play seventh-place Atascocita, one of two teams out of the running for the playoffs, Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Turner Stadium.
By contrast, a 3-3 record in District 21-4A for Barbers Hill means the Eagles won’t be going to the playoffs. Crosby, Galena Park and Smiley are all tied at the top with 5-1 records after Smiley upset Galena Park 21-14 Friday.
Crosby, which whipped Huffman 42-0, is at New Caney Friday while Barbers Hill hosts Galena Park a week after losing in overtime, 24-21, to C.E. King, snapping its record of eight straight playoff berths.
Dayton locked up a playoff spot in District 22-4A and has a chance to claim the district title Friday when it hosts Port Neches-Groves.
The Broncos could also wind up in a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots from the district, but their 63-0 spanking of Nederland helped them get tie-breaker protection.
Anahuac wrapped up its season with a 30-28 loss to Warren. The Panthers finished 2-8 overall and 1-5 in District 24-2A.
Baytown Christian, meanwhile, extended its season past this weekend with its 47-32 win over Galveston O’Connell.
Although the Bulldogs, who host sixth-place Mount Carmel Friday, are only 2-3 in TAPPS III-4, they are solid as fourth-place finishers. They earned the head-to-head tie-breaker over the only team that can catch them, O’Connell.
