The season will be on the line for Baytown Christian Academy Friday night when it travels to Galveston O’Connell. Despite posting a 2-5 record on the season, the Bulldogs have a chance to rise to fourth in the district with a win.
“Practice has been fresh this week and the guys are recharged,” BCA head coach John DeRulle said. “We have to win this week.”
The Bulldogs are coming off of a bye week and will enter the game completely healthy as running back Corti Wilson will return to the lineup from a shoulder injury.
O’Connell is 5-4 on the season and is coming off of a 34-28 loss to Beaumont Legacy. BCA fell to Legacy 47-20 leading into its bye week. The Buccaneers work out of a pro-set and balance a power running game with a deep passing game.
Defensively, they line up in a 3-3-5 set, one that BCA has struggled against this season.
Dayton will also have a game with playoff implications when it travels to Nederland Friday night.
Dayton, Nederland and Lumberton are in a two-way tie for second place in District 22-4A with 4-1 records. Port Neches-Groves, a team that Dayton will host in the final week of the season, is alone in first place with a 5-0 record.
Nederland will face Lumberton in the final week of the season, setting up a tremendous finish in the district.
Crosby will look to improve on its 4-1 record in District 21-4A and 6-2 overall record when it hosts Huffman Friday night.
The Cougars are holding steady in second place, where they will finish the season if they don’t stumble. Last week, Crosby cruised to a 49-7 win over Forest Brook.
To win a district championship, Crosby will need some help as Galena Park leads the district with an undefeated record and a 24-20 win over the Cougars.
Barbers Hill (5-3) turned in its best overall performance since the first week of district in a 47-0 win over Huffman last week. The Eagles will attempt to duplicate the effort when it travels to C.E. King.
The Panthers are 1-7 on the season with their only win coming against New Caney. King came up 22-21 short in an upset bid against Smiley last week.
The Eagles will need help to qualify for the playoff berth. The team has a 3-2 record in district and trails undefeated Galena Park and both Crosby and Smiley, who have 4-1 records and have defeated Barbers Hill this season.
Anahuac will look to finish the season on a strong note when it hosts Warren Friday night. The Panthers are coming off of a 26-20 win over Deweyville last week and have an opportunity to finish fifth in District 24-2A.
