They say that football is king in Texas and from the looks of some of the new high school stadiums that are being built around the state, it’s hard to argue.
You can now add the Dayton Broncos to the mix. With the success the Broncos have enjoyed on the playing field they have now been awarded with one of the nicest Class 4A stadiums in the state in which to play.
Dayton has made 11 straight playoff appearances with seven of those being district titles under the Jerry Stewart era.
“We have great kids here at Dayton that work very hard for us,” said Stewart.
”Another thing that helps us is the fact we have great fans and they support our football team very well,” added Stewart.
That fact was proven last season when the Broncos met Texas City in the second round of the playoffs at Stallworth Stadium. Bronco fans filled up 90 percent on the home side.
The new-look Bronco Stadium started about four years ago when a new scoreboard was put up. Then phase one went into play last year when FieldTurf was installed and a new fence was put around the stadium.
Phase two went into effect this year which consisted of turning the 500-seat visitors’ side into the home side. The new home side has about 5,000 seats on it which increases the capacity of Bronco Stadium to about 9,000.
Another plus is that the seats are stacked up high which means there is not a bad seat in the house. Also added to the home side is a brand new press box.
Additionally, the booster club purchsed a new run-through for the Broncos to run out of to start the game. It has a big Broncos helmet on top.
Dayton’s home opener will be against Friendswood on Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
