Police are looking for the driver responsible for killing a 19-year-old girl Saturday morning. Danielle Burris of Channelview died around 3:15 a.m. after an unidentified driver struck her with his vehicle.
Burris, a former Baytown resident, and her boyfriend were having a disagreement prior to the accident and the young woman began walking west in the 400 block of East Houston Street in Highlands. According to police, Burris was standing in the westbound lane of moving traffic, being supported by her boyfriend, when she was hit by a white Chevrolet 4-door pick up, headed westbound on East Houston Street.
Burris was pronounced dead when Emergency Medical Services arrived.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop after hitting Burris and is wanted for failure to stop and render aid, other charges related to Burris’ death could follow, depending on the circumstances, Lt. John Martin said.
The public information officer said the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be on the lookout for a vehicle matching this description, possibly with damage to the right, front end. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the HCSO Traffic Enforcement Section at 713-672-8864.
“We would really like to get this person off the street,” Martin said. “They took somebody’s life and ultimately, they need to be held accountable for their actions.”
