DAYTON — Once again the Dayton  Broncos steamrolled a District 22-4A opponent, this time it was Little Cypress-Mauriceville as the Bears were shut out 35-0 Friday night at Bronco Stadium.

Dayton stayed tied for the top spot in 22-4A with Beaumont Central at 4-0. Central needed a last-second touchdown to squeak out a 38-34 victory over Vidor, who Dayton defeated 42-7 a week ago.

The District 22-4A champion could be decided next week when Central and Dayton face off at Babe Zaharias Stadium.

“Its going to be a great high school football game,” Dayton head coach Jerry Stewart said. “Those are the kind of games you work for.”

The night belonged to the Dayton ‘D,’ as they held LC-M to 101 yards of total offense and did not allow the Bears a first down until the 7:02 mark of the third quarter. The Bronco defense has allowed only three points in the last six games.

“I can’t say enough about how we played on the defensive side of the ball tonight,” Stewart said. “We are not very big but we run to the ball well and that was key for us tonight.”

Leading the charge on the defensive side of the ball was Sali McNeal, John Gable, Andy Dewey, Ford Smesny, Kerwin Marshall, Jacob Pickle, and Brent Kimmy.

Joe Carter added an interception.

The offense racked up 422 yards with Michael Dugat leading the way with a season-high 198 yards on 22 carries.

Cody Green got it going early for the Broncos by hitting A. J. Dugat from four yards out and a 7-0 Bronco lead just two minutes into the game.

It would stay that way until midway though the second quarter, as Michael Dugat capped a 75-yard eight-play drive by bulling his way in from 17-yards out.

The Broncos would then take over at their own 47-yard line a couple of minutes later and again it was Michael Dugat taking the handoff and going up the middle while plowing over five LC-M defenders for a 53-yard touchdown run.

Dayton was not done for the first half though as they added another score with just 15 seconds remaining as Gable scored from a yard out on a 4th-and-goal.

Green who passed for 177 yards and hit on 14 of 27 passes, finished off the scoring by hitting A. J. Dugat from 20 yards out with 7:25 left in the contest.

Andrew Thomas led the receivers with six catches for 104 yards while A. J. Dugat added five catches for 61 yards and two scores.
