SHELDON — This was supposed to be the big game of the season, possibly for the District 19-4A title as both teams were picked number one and two in all preseason polls.

Scoring at will the Dayton Broncos played their best game of the season at just the right team in crushing C.E. King 56-21 at Crenshaw Memorial Stadium.

Bronco quarterback Sean Gilley was a big part of the Bronco success against the Panthers by throwing for 228-yards and three touchdowns while adding another TD on the ground.

Dayton (5-2 3-0), wasted little time in getting on the board as Gilley hit Andrew Thomas on a nice 29-yard pass play to set the Broncos up at the King one-yard line where Gilley went in one play later. The Panthers would come back with a Ty Holder three-yard run to tie things up before Michael Dugat capped a 73-yard four-play drive by scoring from two yards out.

After a Chavis Nash touchdown run tied things up at 14 apiece, Dayton would again take the lead, as Gilley would hit James Maxwell on a 30-yard touchdown pass. Jacob Pickle would then set up the next Bronco score by pouncing on a C.E. King fumble at the Panther 39-yard line. John Gable would score from three yards out on a fourth and two with 34 seconds left in the first half to give Dayton a 27-14 halftime lead.

Maxwell then got the Broncos out quickly in the second half by taking the second half kickoff and returning it 86-yards for a touchdown. outraced all the Panther defenders for the score.

Nash would then make it 35-21 a couple of minutes later by scoring from six yards out. But the Broncos responded with a score as Dugat capped a 67-yard 13-play drive by going in from eight yards out to make it 41-21.

with 4:20 left in the third quarter. The junior running back finished with 159-yards rushing on 24 carries.

Matthew Passmore then set up the next Dayton score by recovering a C.E. King fumble deep in Panther territory. Gilley then hit Thomas from 27-yards out on the next play for another Bronco score.

The Broncos finished the scoring early in the fourth quarter, as it was the same Gilley to Thomas duo connecting again, this time from 25-yards to put this one out of reach.

For the game Dayton finished with 405-yards of total offense while Andy Dewey added an interception on the defensive side of the ball.

The Broncos will return home next week to entertain the Galena Park Yellow Jackets. Game time is 7:00 P.M.
