Police agencies are looking for 23-year-old Randy Lee Tanner after he assaulted Liberty County Pct. 3 Constable Deputy Chip Fairchild and escaped during an attempted arrest Monday.

“He has to have gotten help from others, or he couldn’t have gotten away,” said Daisetta Police Chief Mike Parrish Wednesday.

Fairchild was not seriously injured and has already returned to work, but Tanner is still on the loose and he could be in the Baytown area. He is wanted for evasion of arrest, assaulting a public servant and criminal mischief.

Fairchild and Deputy Constable Danny Frankum pulled Tanner over Monday around 7:40 p.m. in the Seller’s Grocery, Highway 146 at CR 2550 in Rye. They stopped him for a license plate violation, and recognized him as a suspect in a felony criminal mischief case. Other police agencies, including the Daisetta Police Department, reported warrants for Tanner and started arriving on scene, according to a police report from Parrish.

During the inventory of Tanner’s vehicle he fled but Fairchild stopped him, momentarily. During the attempt to gain control of Tanner, he struggled and struck Fairchild multiple times in the face and head.

Tanner was able to complete his escape when he struggled free and ran into the woods. Texas Department of Criminal Justice sent search dogs to the scene and the officers surrounded the wooded area, but could not find Tanner. Police agencies have asked citizens across southeast Texas to keep an eye out for him.

Tanner is described as a white male with brown eyes, brown hair with a thin mustache, goatee and a thin build. Police also suspect he is a member, or at least an enthusiast, of the Aryan Brotherhood because of tattoos on his chest and back.

The tattoo on his chest is a large “SS,” which police said is associated with the Aryan Brotherhood. The one on his back says “100% Wood,” which is also supposed to be a symbol of the Aryan Brotherhood.

“I have never seen that tattoo, but a Pct. 2 constable, Jimmy Belt, said that is also indicative of the Aryan Brotherhood,” Parrish said. “The way he explained is that the interior of a tree is all white, but I am not certain about that.”

When Tanner got away, he was only wearing a pair of beige cut-off corduroy pants. He has many instances in his criminal history and a few agencies still have investigations open where he is the primary suspect.

The Liberty Police Department is investigating Tanner in a forgery case. He allegedly stole three checks from a former employer, Robert Moore, and cashed one of them for $400 at the Brookshire Bros. in Liberty, according to Officer Elaine Taylor who took the police report. No charges have been filed and no warrant has been issued in this case.

The Daisetta Police Department has five traffic warrants on Tanner as well. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said they have processed him for kidnapping, possession of prohibited weapon, burglary, organized criminal activity and assault.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice knows Tanner as well. On May 24, 2001, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months hard time at Gist State Jail in Beaumont for three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and burglary. He was released August 23, 2002. Parrish said he thinks Tanner joined the Aryan Brotherhood while he served time.

If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Tanner, they are encouraged to call the Daisetta Police Department, 936-536-6120, or the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, 936-336-4500.
