A win is a win and for Barbers Hill coach John Leonard, he is just happy to have earned a four set win over Tarkington Friday night at home.

Barbers Hill, which is ranked No. 1 in the state in the coaches poll, won 25-12, 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, to give the Eagles a 1-0 record in district.

They are 24-2 overall.

“I was real pleased with the first two games but in the third we just seemed to bottom out,” Leonard said. “We fell behind and we’re usually real good about recovering but didn’t.”

Meagan Monk and Aly Hazelwood each nailed 14 kills for the team.

Leonard said he didn’t know of the one-week layoff between competition had anything to do with the one set the team lost but credited Tarkington on its play.

“It was a very competitive match,” he said.

“It’s good to be in those situations and even better to get yourself out of them.”
