There are 11 provisional votes in the Old River-Winfree council election that could sway the race for Position 5.
Saturday's election proved a close race for Judy Frank (“J.F.”) Steadham, a self-employed trucking contractor who unofficially received 95 votes while Robert Smith received 92 votes, for the position.
City Secretary, Linda Murphy said the 11 provisional votes would be verified by the Chambers County Registrar's Office.
The provisional ballots, Murphy said, would be counted at 4 p.m. today.
According to the Texas Secretary of State’s office the review and count of the provisional ballots must be completed by the seventh day after the election.
Notice must be delivered to provisional voters regarding whether their ballot was counted or not counted, noting a reason. This notice must be delivered no later than the 10th day after the local canvass.
