Deer Park manhandles Pasadena Rayburn

Deer Park passed and ran to a 41-point halftime lead en route to a 48-0 throttling of Pasadena Rayburn on Friday.

The Deer scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, then repeated the trick in the second quarter to seal the outcome.

Justin Akers 11-yard touchdown catch from Stephen Johnson wrapped up the scoring with one second remaining in the third quarter.

Deer Park’s Justin Jones ran 16 times for 96 yards, Chase Smith added two carries for 28 yards, and Daniel Cummings had seven carries for 20 yards.

In the air, Johnson was 3-of-5 for 86 yards and two touchdown passes.

Jon Garey opened the scoring on a 44-yard Johnson pass midway through the first quarter. Two minutes later, David Ramirez returned a punt 55 yards for a 13-0 lead. Garey ran in from 5 yards out with a minute left to play in the first.

Smith scored on a 24-yard run early in the second quarter, and Jones scored from 27 yards away less than a minute later. Johnson rammed home a 1-yard TD run midway through the quarter.

The Deer (4-4, 3-2 in District 23-5A) travel to face South Houston on Friday.

Rayburn (1-7, 0-5) was led by Anthony Reynolds, who ran 31 times for 84 yards.
