Texas Heat softball 2nd at nationals

The Texas Heat 12-and-under girls slowpitch softball team, based out of Highlands, won the 2003 Pony Coast Region Bronco Championship held in Slidell, La. Winning the tournament earned Texas Heat a spot in the national tournament held in Baton Rouge, La., where they placed second.

The Heat are the first Highlands 12-and-under girls’ slowpitch team to reach nationals.

The team participated in two other tournaments over the summer — the Bayou Youth National Invitational Tournament USSSA in Lafayette, La., and the Highlands Pony Invitational Tournament, where they placed first.

The girls that played with this team were picked from four Highlands regular-season league teams.

Allysa Cotten, Brittany White, Candice Custer, Alyssa Rosser, Kendra Sager, Sonia Puente, Casey Parson, Lindsey Bean, manager James Sager, coach Brian Schmidt and team mother/assistant coach Pam White.
