Deer run past Klein Oak

The Deer Park Deer used a commanding aerial attack in a 35-0 drubbing of Klein Oak Panthers Friday night.

The Deer scoring onslaught started late in the first quarter when Stephen Johnson connected with Jonathan Garey on a 14-yard pass.

Johnson added a 37-yard pass to Justin Akers in the second quarter to put the Deer up 14-0.

Finishing out the Deer scoring in the first half was Joel Henson, who rushed to pay dirt on a 9-yard run with a little under six minutes left in the period.

The Deer domination continued in the second half as Garey and Johnson connected on a 52-yard pass and Dour Arnold added a 33-yard interception return.

Ehric Wenzel added five points with after-touchdown kicks to finish the scoring for the Deer.

Henson led all rushers with 89 yards on 17 carries. Avery Johnson paced Klein Oak with 60 yards on 15 carries.

Johnson completed seven of 11 pass attempts for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Alex Pounds completed seven of 17 passes for 53 yards and two interceptions.

Garey led all receivers with 110 yards and two touchdowns on four catches.

The Deer (1-1) will return to action next Friday when they take on Clear Creek at Clear Creek ISD’s District Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
