The Sterling basketball team spent a busy weekend rounding into shape in the McDonald’s Invitational. The Rangers broke out of pool play in Division II with a 1-1 record and landed in the silver bracket. Sterling opened its bracket with a convincing 55-35 over host Pasadena High School.

The Sterling basketball team shook off its cobwebs quicker than Kingwood and picked up a 56-48 in its first game of pool play in the McDonald’s Invitational Thursday morning in Pasadena. Keevan Williams scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to help Sterling ice the game.

The Goose Creek Memorial softball team is developing a pipeline to Drury University. Senior Cheyanne Mohler became the second Lady Patriot in three years to sign with the Missouri school. Mohler, a second team all-district selection last season, signed with the school on Wednesday.

West Brook marched through Sterling Thursday night on its way to the playoffs with a 59-7 win. The loss ended the Ranger season with a 2-8 mark. Sterling came out and competed in the first quarter but gave way by the half as the Bruins iced down sole possession of second place in District 21-6A.

The Lady Ganders are off to a quick start on the season. Lee knocked off South Houston 34-32 to improve to 2-0 on the season Tuesday night. Chloe Shelby scored 11 points and Mariah Nelson added 10 in the winning effort. Lee will return to action Thursday when it faces Dayton in the tip-off classic.
